PhD students enrolled in the PhD program Patient-Oriented Research are members of the Graduate School of Medical and Health Sciences.
The focus of this PhD Program lies on patient-oriented clinical research, be it in the care, prevention, therapy or behavioral change of patients inside or outside the clinic. This PhD program is particularly recommended for students of the Faculty of Medicine with Clinical Research, Medicines Development and Sport Science as their PhD subject.

Before graduating, GSMHS PhD students must earn at least 18 ECTS alongside their research. Each student’s individual study plan is developed in collaboration with their doctoral committee, especially the first supervisor.
Students can tailor their curriculum to their interests, selecting from Master’s and PhD courses offered by the University of Basel, GSMHS, GRACE, as well as other national or international universities and institutes.
