In this talk, Jonathan Bartlett will introduce the g-formula: what it is, when it is needed, and how it can be used to answer causal questions in longitudinal studies with time-varying treatments and time-varying confounding.

He will then turn to the common situation in which data are missing, showing how the g-formula can be combined with multiple imputation both to handle the missing values and to estimate outcomes under different treatment strategies. Practical examples will illustrate the approach and offer guidance for applied researchers who would like to use these methods in their own work.
