This talk draws together two strands of creative and sensory research with people living with dementia. The first shares film from work exploring ‘in the moment’ experiences, considering what attentiveness and attunement look and feel like in practice, and what these ways of working ask of the researcher. The second turns to a related study regarding what matters about neighbourhoods for people living with dementia and the use of visual home tours, showing how creative, participatory methods reveal the fluid boundaries between home and neighbourhood for people with dementia. Together, the two projects suggest that attending closely to a moment and attending closely to a place draw on the same underlying disposition, applied at different scales. The talk considers what this means for how we design, conduct and share creative research with people living with dementia, and what questions it leavesopen for those continuing this work.
