Supervisor Workshop

Description

Principal investigators and PhD supervisors are often faced with considerable challenges of supervision, especially due to recent changes in PhD qualification and current challenges in remote work. In medical and health sciences, the challenges might be even greater due to clinical responsibilities in addition to research, teaching, and PhD supervision.

This workshop aims to focus on participants’ everyday challenges of PhD supervision. In practical exercises, participants will exchange their experiences in small groups. Furthermore, the experienced trainer will provide information about promising practices of supervision in doctoral education.

Learning Objectives

After the workshop participants will be aware of:

  • Mutual expectations related to supervision and leadership
  • Their own strengths and shortcomings as supervisor of a PhD student
  • Promising practices in supervising a PhD student

Target Group

Open to experienced post-docs up to the professorial level. The workshop is tailored to the needs of the participants by taking into account their respective career stages.

Max. 10 participants.


Lecturers

Dr. Beate Scholz – Scholz consulting training and coaching
Beate Scholz works internationally as a trainer and coach at universities and research organizations, among other things, focusing on research career development and international research cooperation. Previously, she was in charge of DFG’s research careers unit.


Workload and Credits

You’ll receive a certificate of attendance for this workshop. The workshop may count towards Module C in the “Basis-Zertifikat Hochschuldidaktik".
