To be taken into consideration, external courses must be essential for your PhD, award ECTS credits, and not be offered by the University of Basel. 
Include these courses in your individual curriculum (learning agreement) to cover essential competencies for your PhD education.

The funding covers course fees and -only in 2025- travel costs. Accommodation costs will not be reimbursed.

You may apply for up to CHF 1500 during your PhD. The amount granted depends on the funds available and the number of courses previously funded for you.

The offer is open to all PhD students in the GSMHS, as well as PhD students registered to the former PhD Programs PPHS and DBE.

Please send the signed application form to the GSMHS Coordination Office before registering for a course. We will generally inform you of the decision within 2–3 weeks.

Within two weeks of completing the course, please submit the reimbursement form (provided after funding approval), a copy of the course certificate, and proof of payment to the GSMHS Coordination Office. Reimbursement will only be processed once all required documents have been received.
